Navigation
Precision viewport controls: intuitive mouse navigation, an interactive 3D ViewCube, infinite coordinate axes, and dynamic drafting snapping.
Camera Navigation
| Input | Action |
|---|---|
| Middle-Drag | Orbit the 3D camera around the pivot point. |
| Right-Drag | Pan the camera parallel to the screen plane. |
| Scroll Wheel | Zoom in and out smoothly. |
| F | Fit view to center the current selection or entire scene. |
| Double-Click | Immediately focus and frame the double-clicked entity. |
3D ViewCube
The top-right corner of the viewport features an interactive 3D ViewCube that rotates in sync with your camera. Its six primary faces are labeled TOP, BOTTOM, FRONT, BACK, LEFT, and RIGHT.
- Hover over any face to view its accent highlight.
- Click a face to smoothly snap the camera into a true orthogonal projection of that plane.
- Drag on the cube directly to orbit the scene around the center.
Infinite Coordinate Axes
arc features infinite 3D coordinate axes (Red for X, Green for Y, Blue for Z) that extend across the entire workspace without clipping when zooming out. This ensures continuous spatial orientation regardless of model scale. You can toggle coordinate axes visibility in the top-right toolbar or via the View menu.
Dynamic Grid & Snapping
To maintain an uncluttered workspace, arc keeps the viewport background clean during inspection. The drafting grid automatically fades into view when activating any 2D sketch or 3D construct tool.
The magnet icon in the top-right toolbar toggles automatic grid and vertex snapping. When snapping is active, drafting points automatically lock to grid intersections and geometry vertices.
Units
arc supports both Metric (cm/mm) and Imperial (in) unit systems, selectable in Settings → General. Grid lines, dimensions, and transform measurements update immediately when switching systems.
